Communication networks are going through significant, fundamental changes in the way they are organized, built, provisioned for new services, and managed in order to provide seamless services. This has resulted in the introduction of next-generation networks, demand for new services, and the need for shorter time-to-market. Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) along with Software Defined Networking (SDN) aim to address these challenges by leveraging standard IT virtualization technology to consolidate many network equipment types onto industry standard high-volume servers, switches, and storage devices.
