OJA has an opening for a dedicated, caring, dynamic and Christ-filled music teacher for the upcoming school year, beginning July 1, 2026. They are looking for someone who is a team player, creative, loves children, and who has a mission-minded spirit and is willing to go the extra mile for the growth and ministry of OJA. Responsibilities will include teaching music appreciation and basic music theory (notes, rhythm), leading/directing choirs, introducing lower grades students to simple instruments, teaching individual and/or group music lessons, etc. The teacher must also plan and execute two major school-wide programs and prepare and lead students in performances at area churches. The music teacher will work closely with the principal to ensure that the music program aligns with the mission, vision, & values of OJA. Applicants for this position must model Christ-like behavior and attitudes which will positively impact students in leading them to Christ. Candidates must have good classroom management skills and be able to deliver instruction to students on the indicated subjects and grade levels using a variety of teaching methods and activities. The selected employee will also be responsible for other school duties as may be assigned.
Skills, Education, and Experience Required:
Applicant must be a tithe-paying Seventh-day Adventist church member in good standing and have the legal right to work in the United States, providing evidence if employed. A minimum of a bachelor's degree (preferably in music) with North American Division (Denominational) Teacher Certification is required and must be maintained (or must agree to work towards obtaining NAD Certification). A minimum of three years of successful experience leading music programs in schools or churches and school classroom experience is preferred. Must be a team player; have a service-oriented attitude; be an effective communicator possessing excellent verbal and written communication skills; and be able to positively engage with students and families of diverse backgrounds, regardless of language, ethnicity, race, or socioeconomic status. Possessing competent technology skills using current educational software and hardware is essential. Additional traits should include organization, attention to detail, self-directed, and motivated. Absolute confidentiality is required. Curriculum familiarity, content knowledge, as well as knowledge of proficiency in instructional delivery are crucial. Most importantly, the applicant must possess a love for God, a love for working with children, and a desire to see each child in Heaven.
